Thank you! I’m a diet/exercise veteran and I find your simple, to the point posts useful to keep me on track and as a reboot. I can’t do nuts, 3 nuts become the whole bag, same with cookies. My latest high protein resulted in acidosis which I fixed with baking soda.

Hey Cassandra:) That self-awareness is gold , "3 nuts become the whole bag" is exactly why I tell people to ditch the peanut butter. Some foods just don't have an off switch.

Quick thought on the acidosis thing though β€” definitely worth checking with your doc, but make sure you're drinking a TON of water with all that protein. Could make a huge difference.

Glad the posts keep you on track! πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

NOT MY PEANUT BUTTER?!?

Okay, fine...How 'bout I still put a small dose of powdered peanut butter in my protein smoothie?

Hey Danny I feel your pain - peanut butter breakups are TOUGH!

Powdered PB is actually a solid compromise since you're getting that flavor fix with way fewer calories (about 85% less fat than regular PB).

In a protein smoothie, you're also pairing it with protein that'll help keep you satisfied, so you're less likely to go overboard. Just stick to the recommended serving size and you'll be golden - your smoothie game can stay strong while your waistline gets stronger too!

Started (once again) a weight loss journey almost a week ago but this time with far more dedication than in the past. What spurred me was 1) a bank of blood tests taken via Function Health and 2) a feeling my body was just breaking down with age. I had one successful reboot about a decade ago and kept off 30lbs of that. This WILL be my second reboot where I WILL take off and keep off at least another 30lbs.

The β€œodd” thing is that this time, I just don’t β€œfeel hungry” even though Ive cut my calorie’s significantly. Keeping carbs below 40g most days, and calories literally 1/2 of what I used to eat. Only eating when I feel hungry & keeping intermittent fasting going.

Likely the most important aspect is I’m not giving in to that desire that β€œJust one brownie/cookie/donut/cake won’t hurt”. Instead I start my day with a β€œPure Protein Chocolate Deluxe” bar. Kills off my daily craving for junk food with only 17g of carbs and I don’t feel like I’m denying myself. Rest of the day is primarily protein & fat.

DK, this is absolutely incredible! The fact that you've already successfully kept off 30lbs for a decade shows you've got the mental framework for long-term success - that's rare and something to be proud of.

You're spot-on about the hunger thing - when you prioritize protein and fat like you're doing, your satiety hormones actually work properly again. That protein bar hack is genius - you're satisfying the psychological craving without derailing the whole day. Most people try to white-knuckle through cravings and eventually crack.

The blood work motivation is powerful too - nothing beats hard data showing you exactly where you stand. Keep riding that momentum, and remember that second successful transformation is often easier because you already know what works for YOUR body. Just dropped you a message with some thoughts that might help you crush this second reboot - check your DMs when you get a chance! πŸ’ͺ
